Flashy Cars Attract Flashing Lights

A new yearlong research study concludes that certain types of automobiles are more likely to get traffic tickets. This study not only proves how faster cars attract speed demon drivers but supports the claim that the car you choose to drive can determine the type of driver you are.

The sub-culture of Hummer SUV drivers are notorious for standing out on the highway and this study shows that they are 4.63 times more likely to be issued a traffic citation than the average driver. ISO Quality Planning in San Francisco reviewed a total of 1.7 million drivers’ records for this study to help insurance companies identify risks among today’s drivers. At the top of the most ticketed list were muscle cars like the 507 horsepower Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG as well as the less than luxury priced Audi A4 sports sedan and Scion series of cars that are predominately driven by younger people.

Some of the less predictable ticket-magnets include the Subaru Outback , Toyota Camry Solara and Toyota Matrix. You can be sure that you will not be seeing the Subaru Outback burning rubber in street races during the new Fast and Furious movie. However, some vehicles that are built mechanically identical to the infamous Hummer like the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban are safely positioned on the least ticketed list. More rarely ticketed automobiles are pickups, minivans and Buicks.

Adding insult to injury after Hummer sales dropped 51% in 2008, an ISO Quality Planning representative was glad to spell out the stereotypes that were supported by the findings of this study:

"The sense of power that Hummer drivers derive from their vehicle may be directly correlated with the number of violations they incur," said Raj Bhat, president of ISO Quality Planning. "Or perhaps Hummer drivers, by virtue of their driving position, are less likely to notice road hazards, signs, pedestrians and other drivers."

Insurance companies generally agree with the research performed by ISO Quality Planning and are known to maintain higher rates for drivers of vehicles like Hummers or Scions. For insurers, it just makes sense to require a larger monthly premium to those who are statistically more likely to be in an accident.

Online Traffic School Saves Gas

Gas prices are thought to affect lots of products and services in today’s economy. It may come as a surprise but high gas prices increase online traffic school enrollments. California online traffic school courses have incurred an influx of students since gas prices started rising.

As gas prices increase, drivers tend to find any way to cut back. People are opting to take traffic school online in the comfort of their homes rather than driving to a designated classroom. This saves money by eliminating the drive to and from the traffic school location.

The benefits of online traffic school also include: lower insurance rates, driver record points prevention, less time wasted in class and sharper driving skills.

Finding the Right Traffic School Online

Traffic school is often mandated by a court as a penalty for violating a traffic law. These schools are required to last a certain amount of time and cover important information concerning better driving practices and regulations. Since online education has grown into a respectable industry, drivers are more likely to attend California traffic school online rather than a physical classroom course.

Online traffic school courses are state or county approved and can be taken instead of traditional classes. Online students will receive an authentic certificate of completion that will allow them to dismiss a traffic ticket or sometimes lower their insurance rate.

If you are looking to take California traffic school online the first thing you should check is if your course is, in fact, approved by the court. Directly contacting the court or traffic school is usually the best way to find this out. California is different from other states because it has various governing bodies depending on the area of the state that the ticket is issued.

You should also make sure that your online traffic school meets your specific needs. Traffic school courses can offer a wide variety of services including: a DVD course, streaming video, read along audio, flash animations and graphics. Customer service is always important because you may need to contact them to upgrade your shipping preferences. Finding the right California traffic school online is now easier than ever with all the options and information available through this evolving technology.

What Badder? My English or Texting while Driving?

Text Messaging Do’s and Do not’s – New for California 2009

It’s funny the way California operates; everything is backwards. Rack-up Billions in debt before passing a budget, pass tax increases before getting the required 2/3 vote, or making it a crime to talk on the phone but not illegal to text. I mean what gives? You would think talking phone would be safer because at least your eyes are on the road, but no. Backwards! Well this is all a moot point anyhow since as of Jan 1st 2009, texting is also illegal.

Well the LA Times asked the CHP What Up, Wit Dat? Here’s what they said. What’s illegal while driving is doing anything email/text messaging. Sending, reading, writing are all illegal. No matter what! If you’re chilling at a light or stuck in 405 traffic; you still cannot text. The same applies for browsing the web. Oh yes; and the phrase: “I’m not driving, I’m riding a motorcycle;” will not fly in court (but legal if riding a bike).

But here’s what you can do. But first some warning; your head may explode after reading this.
You can dial a number while driving, so feel free to use binary code to chat. Also you can use your phone’s GPS or Map. If you’re parked somewhere that is legal, then you can let your fingers fly.

Really it all boils down to this, practice safe driving and keep your eyes on the road; doing this will insure you don’t get a ticket. But if your do; might as well take Online Traffic School

Well does Hands Free Work?

We now have a year of data under our belts regarding the 2008 hands-free cell phone laws. And yet there is no data available as to whether this new controversial law is making a difference. According to an LA Times article; the CHP handed out 48,000 of these tickest over the course of a year. And yet we have no data as to whether our roads are safer. What we do know is that at $20 - $50 a pop the state has generated somewhere between: $960,000 to $2.4 million in revenues. We do know that the Red light cameras aimed at decreasing accidents at intersections have really worked.

Another Hollywood Starlet Makes the News for Reckless Driving

Actress Heather Locklear entered a plea deal for reckless driving. Reckless driving brings to mind road rage of driving at high speeds. Well what Heather did was park her car on the highway blocking a lane of traffic. Luckily Mrs. Locklear did NOT test positive for alcohol. She did test positive for prescription drugs though! She was issued a $900 fine and probation. She will also be attending driver safety course. So maybe you will be able to rub shoulders with Hollywood elite by going to traffic school.

A Few New CA Driving Laws for 2009

Texting no bueno – So last year the big deal was the whole hands free movement. I personally bought the ugliest blue tooth heads set device I could find. But it does wonders for my driving. The funny thing is there was nothing in new the law about texting while driving. This should have been more obvious then the hands free. I mean you actually have to take your eyes off the road to do anything text related. So now for 2009 it will officially become illegal for you to write, send, or read texts while driving.

More drunk driving laws – The letter of the law got more specific this year when it comes to those who are on court-ordered post-DUI probation. There is now a zero tolerance standard for those on this probation who are pulled over and blood alcohol level of even 0.01! If you have a past DUI and are on DUI-probation; then even blowing anything into a breathalyzer will cost you your license for 1 year.

Smog = cash – There are no free temporary operating permits. If your does not pass smog then you need to pay a new $50 cost to get a 60 day extension on your registration. So be proactive and get that car smogged sooner rather than later.
